Florida holds public meetings about short based shark angling
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has announced that they are revising the regulations governing land based shark angling in the state. The goal is to restrict “cruel and unnecessary” handling practices that causes fatalities among protected shark species even when they are released. There is a series on public workshops about the issue and comments can also be submitted online.

New origami robot made for collecting delicate deep sea creatures
A new collection robot has been developed by Harvard University’s Wyss Institute, John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS), and Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study. The new robot is a solution to collecting “squishy” and delicate deep sea organisms. The 3-D printed polyhedron folds into a hollow dodecahedron and is known as a Rotary Actuated Dodecahedron (RAD).
New web series from ScubazooTV in production
A new web series from Scubazoo is currently in production and set for release soon. The new series is from the same team that brought you “Borneo From Below” and will feature the same host Aaron ‘Bertie’ Gekoski. This time the series takes place in Timor-Leste, one of the ocean’s last frontiers and home to the largest animal on earth, the blue whale.

New shark species named in honor of Eugenie Clark
A new species of dogfish shark, discovered in deep water in the Gulf of Mexico and western Atlantic Ocean has been named Squalus clarkae in honor of Eugenie “Genie” Clark. Eugenie Clark was a pioneer in shark biology and was one of the first women of prominence in the then male dominated field of marine biology.
