Amanda Cotton: American Crocodiles

Banco Chinchorro is a marine biosphere in the southern-most section of eastern Mexico. The marine life and surrounding area has been protected since 2001 resulting in healthy populations of fish and beautiful thriving reefs. Due to its remote location the American crocodiles (Crocodylus acutus) that reside here are the genetically purest population of their species in the world. It is here under permit, that divers can enter into their realm and encounter these magnificent reptiles up close in the water.
