Late Availability: Mexico Whale Sharks August 2018

We have a few spaces available on the 2018 Wetpixel Whale Sharks trip. It is running from 10 to 16 August and we will be based in comfortable accommodation at the Playa la Media Lune hotel on Isla Mujeres. Unlike most trips that run to see the sharks, our skippers are full time professional charter boat captains that spend the bulk of their time at seas looking for fish. We also tend to leave early and stay late, allowing us to maximize the crucial times when the sharks are relatively undisturbed by other parties.

World Oceans Day 2018 Photo

World Oceans Day 2018

June 8 is celebrated as World Ocean’s Day, an occasion to reflect on the global perils that threaten the health of the blue areas of our planet. As image makers, we can offer a unique perspective by documenting the beauty, fragility and perils of our oceans. On 9 June there is a global March for the Oceans, an opportunity to unite and tell lawmakers that marine conservation matters. The March also calls for people to meet and carry out clean ups and other activities.

Hurricane Aid: Matched Donations to Direct Relief Photo

Hurricane Aid: Matched Donations to Direct Relief

We are sure the Wetpixel community are aware of the swathe of destruction that hurricane Irma has carved through the Caribbean and, it seems, will be doing again in Florida shortly. Following on this storm’s heels are two more hurricanes. Whilst there is little many of us can do to directly help those affected by these events, we all have friends and diving operations that are being impacted right now. Wetpixel has set up a direct fundraising campaign via Facebook to raise money for Direct Relief’s efforts to provide medicine and other health-related services in affected areas. We humbly ask the Wetpixel community to join us in trying to help those in need. Wetpixel will match the first $5K in donations.

Call for Image submission for tribute to Rob Stewart Photo

Call for Image submission for tribute to Rob Stewart

Rob Stewart devoted his life to sharks and their conservation. Shortly after his tragic death, Simon Rogerson of Scuba Magazine suggested that we should create a “wall” of shark images to honour his memory. Wetpixel would like to take this idea one stage further, and are seeking submissions from anyone who wishes to take part in a Full Frame feature of shark imagery devoted to Rob Stewart.
